Girlfriend Accidentally Shot During Wild Hog Hunt in Florida

A hunter in the state of Florida accidentally shot his girlfriend because he mistakenly thought that she was his intended target. By the way, his intended target while on the hunt was a wild hog. The man involved in the incident is 52-year-old Steven Egan from Brandon. He was in a tent in Flagler County, at the Cowart Hunt Camp on County Road 305 this past Saturday when he heard a noise outside that he claims was similar to that of the wild hog. Egan decided to fire a shot at the noise, not remembering that his girlfriend was not in the tent with him at the time he fired his gun. Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident.

When Egan fired the gun it sent a .30-caliber rifle bullet through both of his girlfriend’s legs. The woman’s name is Lisa Simmons and she had to be airlifted to a Halifax Medical Center. She was recovering from surgery on Sunday but was listed in serious condition. It was reported by the local media that Egan claims he fired the shot because he did see a wild hog only minutes before the accidental shooting occurred. As of Tuesday morning, no charges have been filed in the case.
