My Life is a Zoo…

Hey everyone!!! I hope you all are pumped for the weekend! And if you are cardio queen, be sure to check out Kendal’s cross training tips for runners!

Before I show you my amazing zoo adventures, I have to share something cool with you! So, some of you who’ve been following me for a long time might remember my Huffington Post posts, where I discuss some fun articles I’ve been reading (don’t worry, they’ll be coming back). I LOVE Huffington Post because it has information about so many different topics. One great topic? Workout Music – BY JANAE!!!! I love her blog, Hungry Runner Girl, and thought it was so cool that she was featured in this article!! Congrats Janae! (P.S. one day I will come to Utah, or CA, and we will eat mounds of froyo together. It will happen.)

When things get stressful and I need a break, one of my favorite things to do is walk (or run!) through the Lincoln Park Zoo. One of the amazing things about Chicago is that we have the zoo, which is open year-round and is COMPLETELY FREE. That’s right: free. There are several entrances and you can just walk through it like it’s a park! There are also several indoor exhibits for those few cold days we get…

Thursday, when I finished my memo, I decided my brain needed a break so I headed over the zoo. Although it wasn’t as warm as it was supposed to be, it turned out to be a great walk and I saw tons of animals!

Here’s a look at my walk through the zoo:

One of the most interesting parts? They had a giant spider on a huge web without being inside any kind of container. It was juts right there! The zookeeper here is explaining that they did this because once these spiders are full grown, they can move around on their web but their body weight is too heavy for their fragile legs to support, so they can’t go anywhere else! So cool.

Some of you may not know this, but I was actually a Marine Biology major in college! I’ve always been a big animal fan all my life and I LOVE going to the zoo. It’s so calming and relaxing. I remember visiting tons of zoos whenever my family went on vacation, like in St. Louis or San Diego. I’m sure my parents remember us complaining about walking so much… Haha. But now that I’m all grown up with long legs, I hope to keep up visiting zoos and aquariums! Bailey, want to go in KC???

Are you a fan of visiting zoos?

What was one of your favorite places to visit as a child?

Kathryn Wheeler: My name is Katie and I moved to Chicago in 2010 for law school and graduated in May 2013. I'm originally from Kansas City, MO and I did my undergrad at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. I started this blog in August of 2011 because I needed a creative outlet and I wanted to write about my life in a way that other women could relate to and realize that they aren’t alone in many aspects of their lives.
