White Supremacist Runs for Bonner County Sherriff

He might be doing it to get attention, but White Supremacist Shaun Winkler of northern Idaho is attempting to be the next Bonner Country Sherriff. He claims federal overreach lead him to run. The self described member of the White Knights of the KKK is running against Bonner, Idaho’s  incumbent Sherriff Daryl Wheeler and Ponderay police officer Tim Fry in the Republic Primaries, on May 15, before the winner goes on to face independent candidate Rocky Jordan in November.

It is not certain who will win the primaries, but it is quite certain that Winkler will not.

“I’m very very very confident that he will get one vote, maybe, for himself. And if he has some friends, maybe two or three votes,” said former Sandpoint, Idaho, Mayor Gretchen Hellar. “But he is certainly not going to be a factor in the race.”

This is a good assumption, considering that when white supremacist candidate Richard Butler ran for mayor of Hayden in 2003, he garnered merely 50 votes, or 2 per cent.

Winkler, 33, claims he would not use the office to advance his racist agenda. Nevertheless, it is unclear how his allegiances could not play a role in his campaign. His critics are recommending it best to just ignore him.
