Three Hired for Entertainment Practice at Sheppard Mullin

Three associates have been hired by Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP for their Entertainment, Media & Technology practice group located in Century City. The three associates hired are Harmoni Chinen, Matthew Dysart and Nina Kinch. Chinen worked as a Fox Cable Networks attorney, Kinch worked with Counterpoint Systems and Dysart was with Stroock, Stroock & Lavan.

“We are very excited to welcome Harmoni, Matthew and Nina to our Sheppard Mullin team. The new additions bring a wide variety of industry expertise that boosts the depth of our global entertainment practice. The trio has both in-house and law firm experience, which includes cable television, home video and mobile communications, as well as regulatory, dealmaking and restructuring knowledge relevant to entertainment law,” Robert Darwell said. Darwell is the chair of the Entertainment, Media & Technology practice for Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP.

Chinen was responsible for multiple technology agreements involving software licenses, digital services, advertising sales, negotiating contract terms and conditions and oversaw business deals while at Fox Cable Networks. Chinen also reviewed agreements to make sure they met requirements, reviewed data security laws, regulations and corporate policies and was an advisor to the company’s marketing personnel in regards to promotions, contests and sweepstakes.

In the transactions of film financing, production and distribution, Dysart represented lenders and production companies. Dysart earned his degree from the Columbia Law School back in 2008 and earned his B.A. in 2004 from Tufts University.

Kinch was responsible for reviewing entertainment-related distribution and motion picture agreements for Hasbro Studios. The agreements were involved with the implementation of Counterpoint Systems’ rights management and accounting software. Kinch also worked for Warner Bros. Entertainment in London and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications. Kinch graduated in 2011 from UCLA School of Law with a LL.M. She acquired her Masters of Law from Uppsala University in Sweden in 1999.

Jim Vassallo: Jim is a freelance writer based out of the suburbs of Philadelphia in New Jersey. Jim earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and minor in Journalism from Rowan University in 2008. While in school he was the Assistant Sports Director at WGLS for two years and the Sports Director for one year. He also covered the football, baseball, softball and both basketball teams for the school newspaper 'The Whit.' Jim lives in New Jersey with his wife Nicole, son Tony and dog Phoebe.
