Jonathan Simpson Leaves Hunton & Williams for Hong Kong

Jonathan Simpson, who previously worked at Paul Hastings, has decided to leave Hunton & Williams to become the CEO of Standard Oil International Limited, a company based in Hong Kong. It has been rumored that Simpson was removed from Hunton and actually escorted off the premises of the firm’s office in London. Hunton released a statement about Simpson that said the following:

“Effective February 23, 2012, Jonathan Simpson is no longer with Hunton & Williams. Moving forward, his matters will be handled by other members of the firm’s energy and infrastructure practice. As always, we are committed to providing our clients with world-class service.”

The only thing Simpson told the media was that he left Hunton to become the CEO of the company based out of Hong Kong. He did not comment on why he left Hunton or if there were problems when he left the firm.

Simpson became a member of the Paul Hastings firm in January of 2007when he left Berwin Leighton Paisner, a British law firm. Simpson was the head of the international projects practice at Berwin Leighton Paisner. Simpson joined Berwin Leighton Paisner after leaving Dewey Ballantine in 2005. Before his time at Dewey Ballantine, Simpson worked at Magic Circle and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom as an associate.
