Body of David Carter Found Four Years after Suicide in Home

The body of a man was found at his home four years after he committed suicide. Back in 2007, David Carter informed his neighbors that he would be moving to New Mexico from his home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Carter was very well-liked by his neighbors. Carter’s body was found last week when a real estate employee arrived to repossess the house because Carter had not paid the bill for it in four years. It is thought that he killed himself using a handgun.

Carter’s body was found on the stairs, almost skeletonized, with a handgun resting on his chest and a gunshot wound in his head. Authorities have given Carter an approximate date of death back in 2007, when he last paid a bill on the home, because they have no other way of determining a date.

“We’re trying to figure it out, too. How could it go this far?” said government employee Michael Czaplewski. “It’s one of those things where it falls between the cracks, I guess.”

Carter was employed as a nuisance control officer for Milwaukee between the years of 1999 and 2007. In September of 2007, Carter quit that job and told everyone he planned to move to Albuquerque.

“The people closest to him knew he moved so nobody ever did bother to think that anything was wrong with him,” Teresa Bornheimer, one of Carter’s high school friends.

More details about Carter’s life are being discovered now that his body has been found. These details will hopefully explain how Carter could have been dead in his home for four years with no one knowing. Carter is listed as the father of a 14-year-old girl on medical records but he and the girl’s mother never got married. The name of the mother was also never released. She did say that the last time she saw Carter was in 2006. Authorities on the scene found a note that listed items he bequeathed to the girl following his death.

“My jaw just dropped when I found out. I told myself maybe it’s a bum living at the house,” said Bornheimer.

Dental records were used to help identify the body as that of Carter’s. Any profit made from the sale of his house, which originally was his mother’s, will be awarded to the county. But, since it is now known that he has a daughter, she could fight the county for that money in a court of law.
