Meteorologist John Bolaris, from Fox 29 in Philadelphia, is a bar-crawling man who has been described by some as a ‘media self-promoter.’ Bolaris was released from his contract by Fox 29 after being out on suspension for quite some time. Reasons behind his dismissal included the way he handled himself in public.
While he was on vacation in South Beach, Bolaris was drugged and scammed out of $43,712.25 by the Russian Mafia. Bolaris, upon returning home, decided to talk to Playboy about what happened. Fox 29 decided to suspend him indefinitely when they found about the tell-all article and then released him from his contract this week.
The scam happened over a span of two nights back in March of 2010.
“The first night had a beautiful starlit sky, with nighttime temps in the 70s, gentle Miami breezes from the east, slight hint of humidity,” Bolairs said. Bolaris then described the following:
“He saw two women on a swing. Very elegant, beautiful, classy, with jet-black hair and blue eyes… They were smoking cigarettes in that exotic European manner… Bolaris perked up. Two gorgeous chicks coming on to him. There were infinite possibilities ahead. “I’m a guy,” Bolaris says. “There was the thought that I might get laid.” It never dawned on him to be suspicious about two gorgeous, elegant women all over him like a wet suit, he says, because “I was used to girls in Philly coming on to me aggressively once they found out I was John Bolaris, the TV weatherman.“
“They sat at a table in the dark, away from the pool bar…. The girls insisted Bolaris “do shots,” and one of them went to the bar. The other one began to massage his shoulders. When the girl returned with three shots, the one massaging him tilted his head back so he was looking up at the dark, velvet-blue sky dotted with diamonds. The girl pried open his mouth and poured down the shot. “Immediately after that,” Bolaris says, “I lost all concept of time.”
Bolaris woke up alone in a taxi or alone in his hotel room. He then realizes he purchased a painting at an auction and the women from the story call him to party again the next night.
Bolaris, even though he thinks he was drugged and robbed by the girls, he went out with them again because, “There was the thought that I might get laid.” The trio went to a bar called Caviar Bar:
“The next thing he remembers is waking up hours later in a dark room. The girls got him back into a taxi to his hotel room. When he woke the next morning the painting was gone. For the second time in two nights Bolaris has passed out in bed after drinking with two strange women and awakened with no memory of the night before.”
A long battle ensued with American Express regarding Bolaris’ credit card bill. The company agrees to pay him $100,000 in damages. Bolaris surely will need that money after being let go by Fox 29 earlier this week.
