Adventures in Manitou Springs

My second day in Colorado Springs was even better, since I got to see my friend, Maddie!

Maddie lives in Denver, which is about an hour and a half north of Colorado Springs, so she drove down to explore and get some dinner! We decided to check out Manitou Springs, which is one of the oldest parts of the city.

There were tons of cute (and interesting…) shops to explore. One shop was entirely dedicated to rubber ducks. Rubber. Ducks. How are they still in business??!? We wondered this about several stores…

One bar had a very interesting requirement for service:

We were laughing and looking like crazy people taking pictures, while the men inside stared… Yes, we tend to make fools of ourselves when we get together. What are friends for?

We also came across several candy shops, and went into one to get some treats!

I tried a bunch of random ones, and ended up spitting out half of them… That’s what I get for experimenting. I also ate waaaay too much sugar. This bag of candy reminded me of why I shouldn’t eat white sugar!

After walking around Manitou Springs, we also drove around the area to a few sites. Unfortunately, many of them required us to pay to get in… Rude.

We ended up choosing a great tapas place for wine and dinner. I found it on Yelp and guess what, it was ALL gluten free! How lucky am I?!?!?

It was called Tapateria, and we managed to get there with an hour left of happy hour! We definitely brought down the median age by quite a bit since we were there so early… but nothing keeps us from deals on wine!

We both had some wine, and then ordered two different salads, chorizo and figs, some kettle chips, and a cheese plate.

After a fun dinner, we decided to get some frozen yogurt before Maddie headed back to Denver. I saw that there was a Pinkberry and I’d never been, so we decided to go!

I got a chocolate and peanut butter swirl with “gems” (aka pink m&ms) and heath bar. Oh, and 2 gummy bears. Since I didn’t have enough sugar earlier.

I thought it was good, but I much prefer self-serve places where I can do it myself. It was also pretty expensive for a small! Still delicious though, I’ll never turn down frozen yogurt!

Have you ever been to a Pinkberry? Do you like self serve better?

Are you a fan of tapas, or do you prefer ordering your own meal?
