Has someone ever told you to take the bus? If so, make sure you do not literally take the bus. In upstate New York, a 39-year-old man decided to steal a Greyhound coach bus on Sunday, according to police. The man stole the bus in order to attend a friend’s Christmas party. He was stopped by authorities a couple of hours later.

The culprit, Andrew Hickey, from Peekskill, boarded the empty bus, which was running, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Another reason for entering the empty bus was that Hickey was too cold waiting at the Syracuse bus station.

Hickey actually has a commercial driver’s license, which he put to good use when he drove the bus 70 miles toward the Watertown home of his friend before officials from Greyhound used GPS to track it down and disable the bus remotely. The officials from the company then notified authorities as to the bus’ locations.

Hickey has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property and the unauthorized use of a vehicle.
