Thankful Thursday

Recently, I’ve been getting pretty stressed out. With school picking up and finals right around the corner, my race on Saturday and non-cooperating legs, and trying to figure out my new food intolerances, I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed. Sitting on the bus yesterday morning and looking out the window, I had a sense of calm that I hadn’t felt in a couple days and realized that you just can’t sweat the small stuff.

Will the world end if I feel pain during my run and have to slow down? No.

Can I handle getting everything together for finals just as I did the last two semesters? Yes.

Am I going to pity myself for not being able to eat certain foods any more? Of course not.

I have so much to be thankful for in my life, that being stressed doesn’t allow me to enjoy any of it! I’ve decided to take today to reflect on the things I’m thankful for, so I can think of them when I start to feel overwhelmed.

So what am I thankful for?

Well first off, my amazing S Club 7 Pandora Playlist that I almost forgot about! It brings back the “classics” that I listened to in middle school, and always boosts my mood. Isn’t it amazing how music does that?

Haha didn’t see that coming? I was listening to it when I had this reflective conversation in my head… So it needed to make the list.

The obvious?

I am thankful for my friends and family! I would not be who I am today and would not make it through everyday without ALL of them!

Too bad my brothers didn’t stay that adorable….

I am also thankful to be living in Chicago because of all the amazing opportunities and cultural (mostly food…) experiences. I know I gripe about the weather and I know one day I fully intend to move out of the city, but it really is a great place to live.

And speaking of Chicago weather, I am thankful that so far, we have been having very mild fall weather! It’s already November and I haven’t had to break out my knee-length puffy Northface yet!

I am also thankful for Molly and for Harrison and Lauren for getting her! I know having a puppy is a lot of hard work, so I appreciate them going through all of that work and being able to spend time with Molly!

No matter what, she is ALWAYS in a good mood. She is always happy to see me and always loving and adorable. Okay, ALMOST always adorable…. I seem to have forgotten the weekend I puppy-sat her:

And last but not least, I am thankful for each of you that is reading this right now! I started this blog over 3 months ago, hoping that I would last a week! I love blogging because it’s a great creative outlet, it always keeps me self-reflective, and it’s a great way to communicate with other people! I love being able to share my workouts, recipes, and life with all of you. So thank you for reading and keep the comments coming! I love hearing what people have to say!

What are you most thankful for?

What is your favorite part about reading/writing a blog?

Kathryn Wheeler: My name is Katie and I moved to Chicago in 2010 for law school and graduated in May 2013. I'm originally from Kansas City, MO and I did my undergrad at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. I started this blog in August of 2011 because I needed a creative outlet and I wanted to write about my life in a way that other women could relate to and realize that they aren’t alone in many aspects of their lives.
