Perfect Birthday for the Indecisive

Happy Halloween everyone!

If you were having a crazy Halloween weekend and missed my posts, you can check them out here:

Upper Body Workout and food that tasted B A N A N A S

The amusing story of my 9 mile run (yes… I talk to myself)

And appreciating the little things!

I used to love Halloween, all the dressing up! But of course, I didn’t love that it coincided with my birthday. Although I automatically had a theme for my parties, most of the focus was on the holiday! (and by holiday, I don’t mean me). Here are some great birthday pictures from the past:

Please note the Jasmine (from Aladdin) headband in the second and third picture. This was kindergarten, and I’m pretty sure I refused to take that thing off for at least a week… or more.

On Saturday night, my brother and sister in law took me out for a great birthday dinner! I had requested a wine bar (because I’m making a semi-failed attempt to become a wino) and we decided to try out Webster Wine Bar in Lincoln Park.

Birthday outfit!

We’d been to another wine bar before, which was a lot more subdued. I loved this place because it was lively and fun, and there were groups of friends everywhere, rather than couples secluded at tables. We all really enjoyed the restaurant!

You may not realize this about me, but I’ve somehow become a very indecisive person. I have a hard time making up my mind! I also love to try a little bit of everything, rather than committing to one item, so the Webster Wine Bar was the perfect place for me: wine flights and tapas!

Being a wine bar, I expected quite a wine list. What I didn’t expect was a leather-bound book of wine! It was huge!

I stuck to the first area where they listed the flights, and decided on the Autumn Reds. After we ordered, they brought out these cool papers where they placed the wine, so you knew which one was which! I do wish, however, that they’d also had the descriptions of the wines, rather than just the name.

I enjoyed the first two, but the last was just too dark and bitter for me! Haha, see my great wine terminology? I need some help…

Continuing with my theme of indecisiveness, we ordered three tapas! We ordered sautéed Piquillo Peppers stuffed with cheese & herbs, grilled Shrimp skewers, with savory red pepper/white wine sauce & blue cheese, and then a cheese flight!

The shrimp skewers were by far my favorite! (sorry for the awkward picture… I took it from the other side of the table). They had a spicy sauce that was just perfect! The peppers were good but the cheese inside was a bit creamy for me. The cheeses were delicious as well, and served with some candied walnuts!

I really enjoyed the wine bar and would definitely go back! Thank you to Harrison and Lauren for taking me out! I love having family here, they’ve been great!

Are you wondering why the pictures with my brother in them are so dark? The flash of the camera was too bright… he refused to take a picture with it.

You know who else I appreciate? MOLLY!

Since today is Halloween, I thought I’d share with you all her Halloween Costume!

She’s a turtle!!!!! How adorable is she? She put it on Sunday night just for my birthday party at their apartment! She also tried to eat the cake…

Although she looks adorable, about 10 minutes later she was flailing around in the corner trying to rip it off… Apparently she prefers to be a mammal.

When I was growing up, we never dressed up our dogs! My parents think it’s so weird…

What do you think about dressing up dogs?

Have you ever been to a wine bar or had a wine flight?
