ACLU Files Suit Against Florida Law Requiring Mandatory Drug-testing

The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida (ACLUFL) has filed a federal class action lawsuit against the Florida government. The reason is the state’s new law that makes it mandatory for all people who receive benefits from the Temporary Cash Assistance to undergo drug testing. The suit has been filed on behalf of 35-year old Orlando resident Luis Lebron. Lebron, a Navy veteran, says that he refused to undergo the drug test because it violates his Fourth Amendment rights which protects against unreasonable searches. Individuals who fail the test lose the benefits for one year.
