Humberto Leal Garcia a Mexican national who was sentenced and convicted for murder was eventually convicted in Texas on 7 July 2011. This execution has been a contentious issue in the US for some time with critics including the United Nations High Commission (who unsuccessfully attempt to stay the execution), diplomats and US Senator Patrick Leahy.
