Gender Discrimination in US Citizenship Law

Though citizenship laws in US seem to play fair, a recent Supreme Court ruling, in case of Ruben Flores-Villar stated otherwise. His argument that law favors only American born mothers violates constitutional equality. Despite Ruben’s record on deportation due to smuggling drugs, he appealed, stating case of a woman granted citizenship at time of childbirth, though she lived one year, citing unacceptable gender discrimination. In another case, Supreme Court stated that it was Congress’ decision to enact different laws for American fathers and mothers, for national interest. Outcome was against Ruben, as appeal court found no favor to either side.
