Larry Thompson’s Hiring by UGA Opposed by Legal Advocacy Group

Attorney Larry G. Thompson was appointed to the law faculty at the University of Georgia last Tuesday, May 17. However, his appointment has been opposed by the Center for Constitutional Rights, because of his decision as deputy U.S. attorney general that led to the detention and torture of a Canadian software engineer. Thompson refused to deport Maher Arar to Canada, choosing to deport him to Syria despite warnings that Arar would be tortured. The Center for Constitutional Rights is asking UGA to reconsider its decision.
