Former Quarles & Brady Associate Sues Firm Claiming Discrimination

Luis Ramírez, a former Quarles & Brady associate, has sued the law firm, alleging he was a victim of both discrimination and retaliation, according to the April 22nd amlawdaily.com article, “Ex-Associate Sues Quarles & Brady”.

His complaint, filed in Arizona federal district court in Phoenix, alleges that Ramirez, who is a Hispanic of Dominican heritage, and other minority associates, were discriminated against by partners who gave work to non-minorities, instead of them.

Ramírez, who is representing himself pro se, was quoted as saying in the 10 plus page complaint that his performance reviews, as well as those of other minority attorneys “were unduly more critical than the evaluations of nonminority associates, contained generalizations and stereotypes based on race and national origin, and false assertions that were not verified for accuracy.”

Additionally, he claims that after he brought the discrimination to the firm’s attention, he was barred from working with certain clients. He also claims his termination from the firm was based on performance evaluations “that were manufactured and not based on fact.”

Quarles & Brady Phoenix managing partner Jon Pettibone was quoted as saying in the amlawdaily.com article that: “We’re disappointed that Luis elected to file the suit. We believe there is no merit to it and our intention is to defend ourselves fully.”

Quarles & Brady LLP is a full-service law firm with more than 450 attorneys. The Firm offers an array of legal services to corporate and individual clients that range from small entrepreneurial businesses to Fortune 100 companies.
