Assange Loses Extradition Battle

Julian Assange, the founder and chief editor of Wikileaks, can be extradited to Sweden.  Such is the finding of a judge in the UK, where Assange has been under house arrest (or more accurately mansion arrest) pending the results of the extradition hearing.

Assange is wanted for questioning in Sweden for rape and sexual assault.    Assange argues that he won’t get a fair trial in Sweden due to the Swedish practice of conducting rape trials behind closed doors and that the extradition request is a pretext to get him to Sweden where the United States has a better chance of extraditing him for his role in the release of thousands of classified diplomatic cables.

Under UK law, Assange can appeal the extradition ruling and his lawyer says that’s his next step.
