Woods & Wood LLP, an Indiana-based law firm, will sponsor a free cab ride home in Evansville or Newburgh, Indiana as the firm’s celebrate its 13th year for the annual free Safe Night Cab Ride program of the firm. Woods & Woods said that anyone who wants to party on New Year’s Eve and needs a cab afterwards may call Unity Taxi at (812) 421-9999. The campaign is part of the firm’s community service established 13 years ago under the Safe Night Cab Ride program. Woods revealed that the program has cost the firm an estimated $100,000. In 2009, the firm also reported that about 300 of the free rides were used within the city limits between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m.

A partner in the Evansville law firm, Mike Woods, said that the program aims to ensure the safety of the people who generally drink too much alcohol at New Year’s Eve celebrations. “If people are going to drink, they need to be honest with themselves and call for a free cab ride home, if they’ve had too much alcohol. If they take the cab once, hopefully they will do that again in the future when they’ve had too much to drink at other times during the year.”

Sheriff Eric Williams of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff Office commended the law firm’s program. “Woods & Woods has been consistently providing community service, which helps to protect the public on New Year’s Eve.” William also urged drivers to regulate themselves on drinking alcoholic beverages to avoid accidents. “No. 1: We want people to enjoy New Year’s Eve, but we encourage them not to drink to excess. If they do drink to excess, they need to have a designated safe driver whom they can trust. If you don’t drink, you need to remain alert, look out for other drivers and be safe.”
