Justice Stevens Opens Up

Sunday nights just aren’t the same without Jessica Fletcher, and I confess that without the pairing of Murder, She Wrote, I rarely watch 60 Minutes anymore.  Fortunately, in the age of video on demand and Internet rebroadcasts, we can all catch up on anything we might miss on broadcast TV – like former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens giving an interview to 60 Minutes.

In a twelve and a half minute segment that also features comments from former Justice David Souter, Stevens talks about several important cases including Bush v Gore, the Guantanamo cases and Citizens United.  When asked about partisan motivations in Bush v Gore, Stevens said that the majority was “profoundly wrong” while declining to question the motives of his fellow justices.  In between talking about the law, Stevens took the film crew behind the scenes and gave viewers a look at parts of the Court rarely seen by the public, including the cloak room which has never before been filmed for broadcast TV.
