Perkins Coie Launches Investment Managament Group in D.C.

Perkins Coie has launched an investment management group in its Washington D.C. office with the addition of partners Martin E. Lybecker and Mary C. (Molly) Moynihan. Additionally, team member Gwendolyn A. Williams will join the firm’s business practice as an associate.

Stewart Landefeld, partner and chair of the business practice, said Lybecker and Moynihan’s “considerable experience and knowledge base will be a tremendous asset as we add this important service to what we can offer clients.”

Lybecker is a former associate director of the SEC’s Division of Investment Management, specializes in representing investment companies (and their boards of trustees), investment advisers, broker-dealers, depository institutions, insurance companies and financial services trade associations.

Moynihan, a former general counsel for the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust, has represented a wide array of investment management clients including registered open-end investment companies, private funds, registered investment advisers and independent directors of fund complexes.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled that Marty, Molly and Gwen have joined Perkins Coie,” said Karl Ege, senior counsel in the Business practice and former chief legal officer for Russell Investments. “Their insights and experience are wonderful additions to the firm and an exciting new resource for our clients.”

Perkins Coie’s Investment Management group will offer legal counsel to clients in the investment management industry, including registered open-end funds, closed-end funds, business development companies, hedge funds, private equity funds and other private investment companies, funds offered by banks and insurance companies, family offices, and their sponsors, investment advisers, independent directors and service providers. They will also represent the sponsors of products that compete with registered investment companies, such as wrap accounts and bank collective investment funds.

Perkins Coie has more than 700 lawyers in 17 offices across the United States and China.
