The TimesBaker & McKenzie has appointed Eduardo Leite, a partner from its Sao Paolo office, as its global chairman.  It marks the first time an international law firm has tapped someone from outside the U.S. or Europe for the top leadership position.  Baker’s former chair, John Conroy, an American, ran the firm for eight years.

Leite, in addition to running Baker’s Brazilian offices, also ran the firm’s energy and mining practice group.

Founded in 1949, Baker & McKenzie provided clients with an instinctive global perspective and deep market knowledge and insights. It has 3,900 locally admitted lawyers in 67 offices worldwide.
