News Flash: Court Opinions Present the Reasons that Support the Decision

I’m sure this will come as a surprise to everyone, but according to Google “Distinguished Engineer” Anurag Acharya, “Court opinions don’t just describe a decision but also present the reasons that support the decision”. So much for the theory that judges are arbitrary and capricious!

Acharya’s pronouncement on the state of the law is the rationale behind Google’s newest addition to its Google Scholar service. Federal and state case law and patents are now available. The service is free, and is relatively easy to use. You can search by citation or by using keywords. Advanced search functions let you choose between state and federal cases, search by state, and let you include or exclude articles and journal entries as well.
