Boston’s Ropes & Gray cut 106 staff positions, or 10% of its non-lawyer staff.
The firm made the cuts yesterday, and announced the news in a firmwide memo by Chairman Brad Malt.
Malt stated that the firm’s clients and marketplace “have been seriously affected by the continuing global economic downturn.”
Reed Smith cut 115 U.S. staffers in December; Boston’s Goulston & Storrs eliminated 40 staff positions, also in December; and Boston’s Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge let nearly 60 support staff members go in November.
Ropes & Gray LLP is a national law firm with offices located in Boston, New York City, Palo Alto, San Francisco, Washington, Chicago, Hong Kong and Tokyo; and a conference center in London. The firm has over 1,000 lawyers worldwide.
