Obama Closer to Choices for DOJ

The list of candidates for Barack Obama’s Department of Justice picks get shorter every day.

Rumor says that David Odgen of DC’s Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr is a likely pick for deputy attorney general. Odgen was chief of staff to then-Attorney General Janet Reno.

Elena Kagan’s name is being bandied around as a Supreme Court pick. She is dean of Harvard Law.

Meanwhile, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) has announced he will delay the confirmation hearings for Attorney General-designate Eric Holder Jr. for a week, to January 15th. The date was pushed back to placate Republicans, who said they needed more time to pick through Holder’s record.
