A lot of great lawyers have “hung their own shingle” . . . only to decide that they are more enthusiastic about practicing law than they are about running a law firm. If this is you – a premier Connecticut divorce attorney who wants to help clients but is tired of the grind of the administrative and staff issues and marketing and management and metrics it takes to run a law firm – we have an opportunity that will change your life. There are many reasons why talented, hard-working attorneys make the decision to start their own law firms. Bad bosses. Lack of client control. No work/life balance. The chance to make more money and have more freedom. But then they find out not one single law school class or CLE has helped them prepare for what to do when the phone doesn’t ring . . . or when potential clients say they can’t afford to pay their bill. If you’ve ever hired and had to manage an assistant or a paralegal, you know the crunch and stress of choosing to pay them before you pay yourself. Or, if you don’t have staff, you know the strain of doing everything yourself. No other smart lawyers to brainstorm and share experiences with, no bookkeeper to manage your trust account and follow up on outstanding payments, no assistant to take non-billable administrative work off your plate. With the circumstances created by the global pandemic and current climate, these stressors are only heightened. You’re lonely trying to do this alone. You don’t have to. If you are disenchanted with being a mediocre law firm owner and want to return your focus to being a really great lawyer, it’s okay. Sometimes we need to give ourselves permission to switch gears and reinvent ourselves in a better fit. At Freed Marcroft, we built our law firm around helping people move forward to where they want to be. We help find the opportunities that are all wrapped up in what looks like a problem. We know you don't want to be in that space. Let's get you where you do want to be. We are looking for an attorney who has a passion for the law and for helping people. Let us handle the marketing and sales, the client development, the billing and collections, the facilities and staffing issues. We have a team in place to make sure you are not alone, and you are not bound by admin work. When you bring in clients, you’ll be compensated for your efforts. But you’ll get back the time and attention to focus on providing outstanding client service and legal brilliance. We are looking to help the right attorney reclaim their work/life balance. We want to help you fall back in love with the law and with the feeling of helping people find a better life. We want to help you get back to your top-notch lawyer roots, instead of feeling like a struggling solo. We are actively recruiting for a senior attorney who is highly skilled and experienced in matrimonial law. Demonstrate experience in taking ownership of a client's case – discovery, pleadings, and motions; negotiation, collaboration, and mediation; pretrial hearings, motion hearings, and trials Conduct client meetings and develop, recommend, and execute strategies Delegate work to paralegals and legal assistants and monitor their work The Essentials You’re an attorney who can develop the strategy of a case and has the knowledge of the rules of procedure and negotiation techniques that effectuate that strategy. You’re an attorney who knows your way around the courtroom and how to project confidence and competence on behalf of our clients. You’re an adept negotiator who doesn’t fan the flames or take the bait. You believe that divorce and family law matters are not “one size fits all,” and you find the right divorce modality for each individual client’s situation and goals. You thrive on complicated facts and complex legal, jurisdictional, and financial issues. You help clients understand whether they really want to spend $500 to fight over a $50 lamp. If you see a case file as an opportunity to help someone build a new life, you’ll like the way we think. Your skills and experience are important and valued, but your personality, character, intelligence, and integrity are also extremely important. We share truths – with each other and with our clients – even when they are uncomfortable, because we understand that is only way to help a person grow. We own our mistakes and failings, without shame, recognizing we are all human. We embrace that we are responsible to our clients, not for our clients. We provide the best guidance, support, and resources at our disposal while challenging clients to achieve their goals while not buying their victim-mindset. We value each team member as equally important to both our and our clients’ success, and self-important lawyers will not succeed in our firm. We are growing and are always seeking a better way to help our clients. We are fun, funny, and we like each other. Salary Salary is commensurate with skill and experience and is negotiable. The compensation package includes base salary plus bonus compensation for production, performance, and client referrals. We offer a generous benefits package including a SIMPLE retirement plan with an employer contribution, health insurance, paid time off. We also pay for continuing legal education, bar dues, Attorney Occupational Tax, and some approved voluntary bar memberships. We are open to discussing compensation for your existing book of business. How to Apply If this exciting opportunity appeals to you, we look forward to reviewing your resume. Please follow these instructions. Email us your cover letter and resume to growing@freedmarcroft.com. The subject line of the email should your last name, followed by a hyphen and the word “attorney,” followed by one word that you would use to describe yourself (lower case).
