Job Description Washington State firm specializing in Labor Relations is looking for an experienced lawyer/attorney to join our team in a contract position. Candidate may operate out of Washington location of their choice. SUMMARY: Responsible for implementing Labor Relations programs, bargaining strategies, negotiations and other labor relations programs as requested by the various clients both public and private. RESPONSIBILITIES: Support the implementation of a settlement-oriented Labor Relations philosophy and guiding principles across all clients. Provide expert counsel and direction on labor relations matters for clients. Provide full scale human resource, labor relations and employee relations consulting for all clients. Provide strategic and tactical guidance for clients. Develop and leverage labor relations resources to achieve settlements. Provide labor relations perspective for elected officials Represent employers in all administrative hearings including grievance arbitrations, interest arbitrations and unfair labor practice hearings Knowledge of: Collective bargaining process in the public and/or private sectors. Collective bargaining principles, including recognition of exclusive bargaining representatives, management rights, scope of bargaining, and unfair labor practices. Labor laws, rules and regulations, including RCW 41.56 Negotiation principles, including negotiations preparation, trust building, effective listening, understanding settlement ranges and best alternatives to a negotiated agreement (e.g., impasse procedures). Grievance and arbitration procedures. Principles and techniques of preparing effective oral and written presentations including the preparation of pre and post hearing briefs. Ability to: Act effectively as Chief Negotiator of management team in contract negotiations. Interpret and apply labor laws and provisions of memoranda of agreement and understanding. Obtain, analyze, and evaluate data involving labor relations, salary administration, and fringe benefits. Interact with high level management and translate expressed management desires into comprehensive employer bargaining proposals. Communicate effectively with representatives of employee organizations. Use good judgment and make sound decisions in situations involving time pressures and emotional stress. Prioritize, and coordinate multiple work activities and meet critical deadlines. QUALIFICATIONS: Ten years of extensive experience in all areas of labor relations (e.g. lead negotiator, union campaigns, NLRB matters, arbitrations, case evaluation and management, etc.) JD (Juris Doctor) degree required Negotiations experience in the public sector preferred. Demonstrated leadership skills Demonstrated effective collaboration and networking skills Demonstrated ability to develop and mentor others Proven problem-solving ability Effective negotiation and influence management skills Ability to command the respect of business partners Requires extensive local travel. Excellent written and oral communications skills Microsoft Office fluency with emphasis on Word and Excel Job Type: Part-time, initially 20-30 hours a week Salary: Monthly contract retainer based upon DOQ
