Animal Legal Defense Fund Paralegal (Litigation Program) Reports to: Litigation Program Administrative Manager. Location: Remote or based in Cotati, California. Employment Status: Full-time. Position Objectives: The Litigation Program Paralegal is responsible for performing routine paralegal duties and supporting the smooth functioning of all operations associated with the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s Litigation Program and personnel. This includes managing active cases in the Litigation Program’s case management database, case and docket calendar, and case-related internal and external scheduling. The Litigation Program Paralegal is also responsible for all substantive paralegal tasks such as preparing drafts of pleadings, discovery, correspondence, memoranda, and other litigation documents for attorney review, as well as interviewing witnesses. Responsibilities: Perform routine paralegal duties in support of the Litigation Program’s docket under the supervision of Litigation Program’s attorneys. Review and organize case files, update case management systems and reports, and other case management functions. Draft documents, including pleadings, discovery, factual memoranda, and other routine legal documents for review by the Litigation Program’s attorneys. Prepare witness files and other materials to help prepare for depositions or trial witness examinations. Manage deadlines, tasks, and deliverables for case teams. Manage and assist in case planning, strategy, discovery, and trial. Qualifications: Understand and be fully committed to the vision, mission, and core values of the Animal Legal Defense Fund. Have a minimum of five years’ paralegal or similar experience. Excellent planning, organizational, and prioritization skills and ability to meet deadlines. Ability to proactively drive projects forward, identify and address issues, and problem solve independently. A strong understanding of a variety of computer applications and best practices that include Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office365 Applications, as well as other database management, legal case management, and electronic document management and retention programs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with members, supporters, co-workers, etc. A positive attitude and ability to work cooperatively with others and function well in a team-oriented work environment. In addition to the above qualifications: Candidates with a paralegal certificate or degree are highly preferred.
