The new Associate Attorney will work with our Brightside team to creatively and compassionately support our clients. The Brightside team is here to help families with children of all abilities navigate their education and civil rights. Our goal is to support families to learn their education and public benefits options and advocate for the best possible outcome for their children. This Associate Attorney will bring a passion for helping children and their families, the ability to find creative solutions to complex challenges and be able to navigate difficult conversations patiently and empathetically. Priority consideration will be given to individuals with experience in education, disabilities, or civil rights. Minimum Qualifications: Active license to practice law in the state of California 1 year experience with special education (e.g. IEPs, 504 Plans, CASA) Excellent time management skills Compose high-quality written correspondence Synthesize complex legal and factual concepts Confidence in communication with clients Empathetically navigate challenging conversations with diverse individuals Proficient with Mac operating systems, Microsoft Suite and Google Drive ?Preferred Qualifications: 2+ years practicing law in California Bilingual, English & Spanish preferred Experience with Limited Conservatorships Position Summary: An Associate Attorney will join our team ready to learn Special Education Law through leadership mentoring, including review of relevant literature and operations guidance, assisting Senior and Managing Attorneys with active cases and continuing professional development opportunities. Our team has a robust training program to ensure confidence and supporting ongoing skill development. Once independently operating, the Associate Attorney will directly handle cases, review documents, meet with clients, write complaints, handle motions, attend mediations, negotiate settlements, and prosecute matters through hearings and appeals. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, contributing to the firm’s publications, public speaking, and attending networking functions. This is a full time benefits-eligible position.
