Profile

Job Summary:

Smith Legacy Law seeks an Associate who will work alongside the legal team in advising high net worth individuals and families on estate and tax planning and trust administration and litigation matters.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and drafts estate planning and litigation documents including Wills, trusts, deed filings, and probate and trust administration documents e.g., petitions, affidavits, and other items.
  • Effectively communicates with clients, financial advisors, and accountants in a timely manner to keep matters moving forward.
  • Organizes and tracks all active matters, petitions and deed filings and other pertinent timeline information.
  • Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources.
  • Collaborates and assists the legal team with other legal services including but not limited to document reviews.
  • Participates in firms marketing efforts including drafting, editing, and researching blog posts, website copy, client alerts, law journal/law review articles and presentation materials.
  • Stays up to date on pertinent state and federal tax laws, statutes, judicial procedures, legal rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains detailed records regarding billable and non-billable hours. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and J.D. degree required.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of CT, in good standing required.
  • Minimum of one year experience in estate planning, trust and estate administration or litigation required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods throughout the workday with intermittent periods of standing, walking, bending, twisting, and reaching necessary to carry out job duties.
  • Requires coordinated dexterity of fingers/hands necessary to operate a computer and office equipment.
  • Light work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Works indoors in adequate workspace and lighting, but with fluctuations in temperatures and ventilation.
  • Frequent exposure to noise, disruptions, and stress.
  • Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.

Salary: Full-time in office position. $90,000+ annually, commensurate with experience.
