We are a boutique law firm that specializes exclusively in U.S. immigration law. We are seeking a licensed U.S. immigration attorney with at least 2 to 4 years of business immigration experience to work out of our downtown Toronto office (Toronto, Ontario, Canada). (2 to 4 years of experience) A. Duties and Responsibilities The selected candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities: Conduct consultations and retain prospective clients Train law clerks Delegate work to law clerks Manage law clerks Review applications prepared by law clerks Manage client accounts Manage various aspects of the firm’s operations Draft and prepare applications and petitions (family-based petitions and applications, work visa petitions and applications, US waiver applications, etc.) Conduct legal research (research and review case law, review authoritative sources such as the FAM, the CFR, the INA, etc.) Communicate with clients via email and phone File petitions/applications with the USCIS, the US Consulate and the Admissibility Review Office Prepare applications for Canadian clients to file at the border or airport (TNs and L-1s) Prep clients for their visa interviews, border/airport filings, etc. Other duties as required B. Types of Cases You will be Working On You will work on the following types of cases: E-2 and E-1 cases (both consulate and USCIS filing) TN cases (both port-of-entry filing and USCIS filing) L-1 cases (both port-of-entry filing and USCIS filing) H-1B cases O-1 cases US waivers for Canadians (I-192 and I-212) US waivers for non-Canadians Family-based immigration (I-130, Adjustment of status, NVC processing, and immigrant visa processing) Employment-based immigration (EB-1 and EB-5) Renunciation of US citizenship cases Claim to US citizenship cases Legal research Numerous other US immigration matters C. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: At least 2 to 4 years of experience as a U.S. immigration attorney Significant experience with consular based E-1 and E-2 visas (these type of cases make up a significant portion of our practice so expertise in this area would be ideal) Significant experience with EB-5 cases (these type of cases make up a significant portion of our practice so expertise in this area would be ideal) Experience with NIV filings (L-1s, H-1Bs, TNs, etc.) Able to handle cases on your own with little to no supervision D. Intangibles We are seeking a lawyer with the following intangibles: Positive and optimistic attitude Friendly and works well with others Great communication skills Exceptional legal writing and research skills Hard working and reliable Skilled and comfortable with retaining new clients through phone and in-person consultations E. Probationary Period The selected candidate will be subject to a 3-month probationary period. F. Salary The starting salary for this role is $70,000 to $80,000 CDN/year.
