SENIOR LAW MANAGING ATTORNEY

La Raza Centro Legal is currently accepting applications for a managing attorney position. The Managing Attorney is not and may not become a union employee covered by any collective bargaining agreement of which LRCL is a party.

Our mission is to create a more just and inclusive society in the interests of the Latino, indigenous, immigrant and low-income people of San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. Through our programs in legal services and community empowerment, we seek to enable people to know and exercise their own legal rights, confront injustice, increase self-sufficiency, and advocate for themselves.   

Qualifications: Strong commitment to social justice; strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish; supervisory experience; program development experience; ability to advocate on behalf of immigrants in the media, community forums, and other venues; good public speaking skills; ability to engage in strategic planning regarding the direction of legal services work; admission to the California Bar.   

Responsibilities: The attorney provides legal services to seniors and young adults with disabilities, including benefits settlements, consumer protection, estates and trusts, immigration, and fair settlements in eviction defense. Program offerings are based on prior experience of the attorney hired.

The attorney will also provide legal advice to walk-in clients on a case-by-case basis, depending on availability, and to clients attending monthly clinics. The attorney will attend mandatory settlement conferences, and defend unlawful detainer and other actions in court, including jury trials and/or administrative hearings, if applicable.   

The position will require the attorney to manage an individual caseload, maintain regular clinic hours (1x/month), supervision of a full-time legal assistant, interns and pro bono attorney (if any), to assist in meeting goals of the position as well as enhance the resources available to the community. The attorney will have discretion to adjust grievances within the Senior Law program. The attorney will also have authority on behalf of the employer, to hire, transfer, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, reward (includes evaluations, overtime assignments, time off), assign, or discipline employees within the Senior Law program, or to recommend such actions to the Executive Director. 

The attorney will assist with fund development and Gala fundraising efforts, ensure funding obligations including obligations under the contract, reporting requirements, and seeking new funding opportunities (grant writing).

The attorney reports to the Executive Director.
