How You’ll Contribute

The Legal and Business Affairs (LBA) team assists the organization in its business endeavors by providing business advice, support with contract drafting and support with litigation.


The Vice President & Sr. Associate General Counsel will provide legal advice, contract drafting and business affairs advice for a wide variety of matters focusing on matters relating to technology, facilities and operations. Act as NGS Data Privacy Officer, including compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation and other relevant data privacy regulations. Serve as primary legal support on any NGS cyber-related matters. Provide legal advice and contract negotiation in support of all real estate and facilities matters, including construction, architecture, and other vendor agreements in support of improvements to NGS facilities. Be a collaborative, strategic and solutions-oriented advisor to numerous business clients regarding how these subjects influence NGS’s business strategy. In addition, manage claims and litigation that arises in any of these subject matter areas as needed. This position reports to the Chief Legal Officer.

 

Your Impact

Responsibilities Include

  • Data Privacy: Act as NGS Data Privacy Officer. Advise on compliance with GDPR and all other applicable data privacy regulations. Maintain, update and advise on policies and procedures. Offer practical guidance to clients to meet business needs and find solutions in a compliant manner. (25%)
  • Technology Negotiations:  Analyze legal and business matters for the IT Division and other divisions on legal and contract matters relating to NGS technology needs. Serve as business partner in negotiating all software and hardware systems purchases and technology services agreements. (25%)
  • Cyber Matters: Provide all aspects of legal support for cyber related matters. Prepare proactively for breach response situations, and respond and advise pragmatically and consistent with all relevant laws and regulations in any situations in which data potentially may be compromised. (10%)
  • Facilities & Real Estate: Negotiate all agreements relating to NGS facilities and real estate, including construction, architecture, design and other services agreements and leases. as primary legal advisor on all matters relating to transformation of NGS public spaces. (25%)
  • Operational Negotiations & Guidance: Serve as primary legal generalist advisor for all organizational operations support departments including all groups within Business Operations and Finance. Negotiate agreements as needed for all operational support departments (15%)
  • From time to time, act as Assistant Secretary.

What You’ll Bring

Educational Background 

JD, with license to practice as an attorney in DC

Minimum Years and Type of Experience

15+ years relevant legal experience, including experience in the areas of data privacy and technology-related negotiations.

Necessary Knowledge and Skills

  • In depth knowledge of U.S. Federal statutes and all relevant regulations pertaining to intellectual property (including copyright and trademark), non-profit, media, and business operations. 
  • Adroit at quickly and effectively mastering the fundamentals of different areas of law, as needed.
  • Advanced skills in drafting and negotiating business contracts and similar documents.
  • Superior writing and analytical skills required, and an ability to quickly learn the fundamentals of different areas of the law.
  • Ability to interface effectively with Senior Leadership  and all levels of staff.
