<p>Duane Morris announced recently David A. Charapp has joined the firm as a partner in its San Diego office, in its Corporate Practice Group. In addition, the firm is also pleased to welcome Jarrett Fugh as a partner in its Los Angeles and San Francisco offices. Fugh joins the Real Estate Practice Group.</p>
<p>The addition of Charapp reflects the firm’s growing corporate practice group on the West Coast and nationally, especially in the areas of life sciences and technology. He joins Duane Morris from Foley &amp; Lardner LLP. There, he served as chair of the firm&#8217;s Life Sciences Collaborations &amp; Licensing Practice.</p>
<p>Charapp assists life sciences and technology companies with their critical partnering, licensing and financing transactions, as well as significant operational agreements such as those for manufacturing and supply, distribution, and pre-clinical and clinical research. Charapp has significant experience as an in-house attorney, having been associate general counsel at Kosan Biosciences, a biotechnology company acquired by Bristol-Myers Squibb, and associate general counsel at Santarus, a specialty biopharmaceutical company.</p>
<p>Charapp earned his J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Boston College Law School.</p>
<p>Duane Morris&#8217; Life Sciences and Biotechnology Group offers clients a wide range of legal services, including intellectual property counsel, securities counsel in connection with private and public equity funding, international trade and tax advice, labor and employment guidance, dispute resolution and litigation service. These are all provided within the framework of their business to address each client&#8217;s specific needs.</p>
<p>The addition of Jarrett Fugh reflects the firm’s growing Real Estate Practice Group on the West Coast and nationally. He joins Duane Morris from Winston &amp; Strawn.</p>
<p>Fugh concentrates his practice on real estate and corporate matters, representing clients in the acquisition, financing, development and leasing of real property, with an emphasis on hospitality and resorts. He helps clients in the origination and restructuring of syndicated, mezzanine and securitized loans, as well as in the construction financing of major commercial, residential and hospitality properties. In addition, Fugh advises clients on the formation and structuring of joint ventures for both developers and institutional investors in real estate projects. He also counsels clients on a range of general corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions and financings.</p>
<p>Local and national media have interviewed Fugh with regard to economic trends in the real estate market, particularly those concerning Asian investment in the U.S. real estate markets.</p>
<p>Fugh earned his J.D., cum laude from The George Washington University Law School, where he was a staff member of The George Washington Journal of International Law and Economics.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-8602" title="andrewskurth_160x120" src="http://www.jdjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/andrewskurth_160x120.jpg" alt="" width="160" height="120" />Houston’s <a href="http://www.jdjournal.com/tag/andrews-kurth/" target="_self">Andrews Kurth</a>, which <a href="http://www.jdjournal.com/2009/03/09/andrews-kurth-held-stealth-layoffs/" target="_self">laid off at least 20 lawyers</a> across its offices in March, has brought on two attorneys.</p>
<p>Texas Supreme Court Justice Scott Brister joins Andrews Kurth as a partner in its Austin office, to lead the appellate practice. He will focus on litigation and alternative dispute resolution. Brister was previously with Andrews Kurth in the 1980s. He was also a district court judge in Harris County; a justice on the First Court of Appeals in Houston; and chief justice of the Fourteenth Court of Appeals in Houston. His law degree is from Harvard Law School.</p>
<p>David Whittlesey joins in Austin as a partner in the litigation group. Whittlesey will focus his practice on complex commercial, business and technology litigation. He is is President-Elect of the Austin Bar Association; a former president of the Austin Young Lawyer’s Association; and an active member of the Admissions &amp; Disciplinary Committee for the Western District of Texas. He earned his JD <em>magna cum laude</em> from the University of Houston Law Center, where he was a member of Order of the Coif.</p>
<p>Andrews &amp; Kurth LLP was founded by Frank Andrews and Congressman Thomas Henry Ball in 1902, and later joined by Melvin Kurth in 1913. The firm currently has over 400 attorneys internationally, including offices in London and Beijing.</p>

<p>Robert C. Reynolds, Jr. is an outsourcing lawyer who co-founded Alston &amp; Bird&#8217;s energy infrastructure team. He received his JD from the <span class="searchmatch">Vanderbilt</span> <span class="searchmatch">University</span> <span class="searchmatch">Law</span> School, where he was an editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review and elected to the Order of the Coif. He is admitted to practice law in Georgia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. He will work from both Atlanta and Seyfarth&#8217;s Washington DC office.</p>
<p>Shawn K. Baldwin, who joins in Atlanta, focuses on strategic corporate transactions. He got his JD from the <span class="searchmatch">University</span> <span class="searchmatch">of</span> <span class="searchmatch">Pennsylvania</span> <span class="searchmatch">Law</span> School. He is admitted to the Georgia Bar.</p>
<p>S. Joel Cartee, who also joins in Atlanta, handles complex global transactions and matters relayed to the Kyoto Protocol. He is a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia. He received his JD from the <span class="searchmatch">University</span> <span class="searchmatch">of</span> <span class="searchmatch">Alabama</span> School <span class="searchmatch">of</span> <span class="searchmatch">Law</span>. He is admitted to practice law in Georgia.</p>
<p>Chicago’s Seyfarth Shaw LLP is a full-service law firm founded in 1945. It has ten offices.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>New York&#8217;s <a href="http://www.jdjournal.com/tag/hahn-hessen/" target="_self">Hahn &amp; Hessen LLP</a> has announced that Daniel M. Ford and Edward L. Schnitzer have been made partners in the firm. Both men were formerly senior associates.</p>
<p>Ford represents financial institutions and borrowers in structuring, negotiating and closing a wide variety of domestic and cross-border financing transactions. He came to the firm from <a href="http://www.jdjournal.com/tag/white-case-llp/" target="_self">White &amp; Case</a> in 2004. A <em>magna cum laude </em>graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Dan was a member of the Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif.</p>
<p>Schnitzer represents creditors, unsecured creditor committees, debtors and trustees, with a concentrated expertise in all levels of bankruptcy-related litigation. He was an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County, and served as a Staff Attorney with the Division of Enforcement of the Securities and Exchange Commission. A 1997 graduate of Columbia University School of Law, and a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, he has been with the Firm since 2001.</p>
<p>Founded in 1931, Hahn &amp; Hessen LLP is a full service commercial firm serving primarily financial institutions and creditors holding distressed debt.</p>
