Following an emergency hearing today, a judge in Chicago has ordered the city’s school system to allow immediate transfers for any student that wants to leave Fenger High School. Students and parents brought the case after an honor student was beaten to death while walking home from Fenger in September. The incident was captured on a cell phone camera.

The president of the Chicago School Board, Michael Scott, was found dead this morning after what authorities believe was a suicide. Scott’s death does not appear to be related to the situation at Fenger High School.
