Eckert Seamans Adds Two Members to Washington, D.C. Office

Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC, announced in recent days that James C. Falvey and Allen Bachman have joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as Members.

Edward J. Longosz, II, Member-in-Charge of the firm’s Washington office was quoted as saying in a press release at the firm’s website: “The addition of Jim Falvey and Allen Bachman is another significant step forward for Eckert Seamans’ Washington office, our Firm and our clients. These attorneys bring the experience and relationships that complement and broaden our legal team as we deliver the highest quality legal counsel on the most complex and critical issues facing clients today.”

Jim Falvey concentrates his practice on telecommunications and other utility matters. Before joining the firm, he served as Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Senior Counsel for Pac-West Telecomm, Inc. In this role, he managed regulatory and legislative matters and effectively addressed a broad range of regulatory challenges at the federal, state, and local level. During the past fifteen years, Falvey also served in various in-house regulatory counsel and senior leadership roles with CoreTel Communications, Time Warner Telecom, Xspedius Communications, and e.spire Communications. Before that, he also spent six years in private practice in Washington, D.C. and two years as a legislative assistant to Senator Harry Reid.

Allen Bachman advises clients on a wide range of antitrust, competition, and consumer protection issues on a regular basis. He also possesses significant experience representing clients in complex commercial litigation and arbitration proceedings. He advises on all aspects of antitrust, competition and consumer protection law. He regularly represents clients in Hart-Scott-Rodino merger clearance matters before the Department of Justice Antitrust Division and the Federal Trade commission. He also counsels on antitrust and consumer protection on a wide range of issues, including internal audits and price fixing inquiries and marketing and sales practices. He also represents clients in complex commercial litigation and arbitration proceedings including antitrust, securities class actions, breach of contract and other general commercial litigation matters. Before practicing law, he served as an economic analyst for the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division.

Ed Longosz has an established practice on both a local and nationwide level, with a wide range of experience in complex civil litigation, in all aspects of commercial, business torts, the representation of airlines on passenger and cargo claims, commercial and regulatory matters, insurance coverage, contract disputes, agency disputes and bad faith cases, as well as defense of toxic torts, product liability, and D&O matters. He serves as the Commercial Litigation Practice Group Chair for Washington, DC and Richmond, VA.

Eckert Seamans Cancels 2010 Summer Program

Eckert Seamans, which laid off 90 temporary attorneys in July, has canceled its 2010 Summer associates program.

Other than a terse announcement on its website, the firm has made no official statement.

Seyfarth Shaw Partners Jump Ship to Eckert Seamans

Eckert Seamans has picked up two Seyfarth Shaw partners for its real estate practice.

Ralph Stone and Rachel Gould join Eckert Seamans in Boston.

Stone will handle commercial, industrial, and residential properties. He earned his JD from Harvard Law School.

Gould will represent parties in commercial real estate matters. She earned her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law.

Eckert Seamans Lays Off 90 Attorneys [Correction]

Eckert Seamans, which in May laid off 119 temporary attorneys targeted 119 temporary attorneys at its Pittsburgh document coding center for layoffs, has concluded the layoffs, with 90 affected.

Sixty attorneys still work at the center. The firm hopes to rehire some of those let go when the economy picks up.

Eckert Seamans Poaches 5 Lawyers from Ballard Spahr

Pittsburgh’s Eckert Seamans has brought on five lawyers from Ballard Spahr.

Joseph Nealon, Jeffrey Larroca and Constantinos Panagopoulas join as partners. Jennifer Lattimore and William Ledoux Jr. join Eckert Seamans as associates. Nealon managed Ballard Spahr’s litigation practice.

The new hires will work out of the firm’s Washington, DC office, which will now have 17 lawyers.

Earlier this month, Eckert Seamans announced it is laying off 119 temporary attorneys at its Pittsburgh document coding center.

Eckert Seamans Lays Off 119 Lawyers

Eckert Seamans will lay off 119 of 200 temporary attorneys at its Pittsburgh document coding center.

The layoffs will be final by July 1st.

In April, the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania office of Eckert Seamans hired 12 lawyers from the defunct Wolf Block.

Eckert Seamans Picks Up a Dozen Wolf Block Lawyers

The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania office of Pittsburgh’s Eckert Seamans has hired 12 lawyers from the defunct Wolf Block’s Harrisburg office.

The combined Harrisburg office will house 36 attorneys. Eckert and Wolf Block are located in the same building, and Eckert will take over the dissolving firm’s offices.

Eckert says it may pick up more Wolf Block refugees.

The firm employs crazy far-right ex-Senator nutjob Rick Santorum.

Eckert Seamans to Merge with Hendrickson & Long [Video]

The law firms of Eckert, Seamans, Cherin & Mellott, LLC and Hendrickson & Long, PLLC announced they will combine their practices at the beginning of 2009.

All 12 attorneys from Charleston, South Carolina-based Hendrickson & Long will join Eckert Seamans, giving the firm a significant expansion in West Virginia and an important Charleston presence.

Hendrickson & Long feels the move will build upon what the firm has already started in Charleston and will help better serve their West Virginia clients.
