Jack Thompson Hopes SCOTUS Will Save His Legal Career; Has One Vote So Far (Guess Whose?)

Jack Thompson is hoping that the United States Supreme Court will consider his appeal of the Florida Supreme Court ruling that disbarred him for life.

In mid-December the anti-game attorney requested from the U.S. Superme Court an extension of a Christmas Eve deadline in which to file what is known as a petition for a writ of certiorari.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has granted Thompson’s request, meaning that the embattled anti-game violence advocate will have until February 18th to petition for cert with the Supreme Court.

I’m not surprised that Thomas would back Thompson — they’re both famous, media-friendly lawyers, terrible at their jobs, who subscribe to the dumbass Sarah Palin wing of the Conservative movement.

I discovered this ad via Digg, and immediately decided to see if it was legit.

It is. P’Ta Mon (pronounced “peeta mon”) is a real attorney [UPDATE: I'm not sure if he passed the Bar, or if he just has a JD.).

Of course, just as "The Simpsons already did it," well, Above the Law already did it:

My advertisement has been so abused and misused that it’s almost comical. It’s better to give background on myself, so people understand that I’m a creative person, trying to reach clients in creative ways.

I’m telling them: “You’ve been labeled as a thug. But I am your lawyer, and you are innocent until proven guilty.”

Woman Gives Away “Cure for Cancer,” Sues to Get It Back

I love Above the Law’s Lawsuit of the Day. Whether its the guy who wrote off his girlfriend as an employee, or the guy who threw his wiimote into his big screen TV and somehow thinks his retardation is Nintendo’s fault, or even the woman who thought that disliking her office mate’s perfume counted as a “disability,” wacky lawsuits always bring a happy tear to my eye.

In a complaint filed in Connecticut, a patient claims that she wrote down the cure for cancer while being treated at Hartford Hospital. She says that she gave the cure to her doctor for more research, but now she wants that research to stop — at least until she is able to patent her life saving ideas.
