			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal"><span><a href="http://www.jdjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/mckennalong_160x120.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-3474" src="http://www.jdjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/mckennalong_160x120.jpg" alt="" width="160" height="120" /></a>The firm of <a href="http://www.mckennalong.com/">McKenna Long &amp; Aldridge LLP </a>(MLA) announced today it was chosen to advise the Government of Bermuda on its proposed reform of both the Corporations of Hamilton and St. George&#8217;s (the Municipalities). MLA has partnered with the Bermuda-based law firm Attride-Stirling &amp; Wolonecki Barristers &amp; Attorneys (AS&amp;W) in this initiative.  Together, the firms will coordinate a comprehensive audit of the Municipalites operations, after conducting an examination of Bermuda&#8217;s Municipalities Act of 1923.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>The Hon. Walter Roban, J.P., M.P., Minister of Health of Bermuda today stated, &#8220;I am happy to announce the appointment of AS&amp;W and MLA to move this initiative forward. They bring a great deal of experience in reform efforts both in the private and public sector, which we think will be of value in this project.  The consultants have been given specific objectives and timelines so that we can move forward with reform later in 2010.&#8221; </span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignright" src="http://www.jdjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/appleby_160x120.jpg" alt="Appleby" />Bermuda’s <a href="http://www.jdjournal.com/tag/appleby-global/" target="_self">Appleby Global</a> will merge with the Isle of Man&#8217;s <a href="http://www.jdjournal.com/tag/dickinson-cruickshank/" target="_self">Dickinson Cruickshank</a>.</p>
<p>The legal, fiduciary and administration service firm will continue to be known as Appleby, and the merger will be effective in October.</p>
<p>Appleby will have 200 lawyers, including 73 partners, and more than 800 staff in nine offices worldwide, including Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Jersey, Mauritius, Hong Kong, London, Zurich and the Isle of Man.</p>
<p>Founded in 1899, Dickinson Cruickshank is one of the longest-established law firms on the self-governing UK Crown dependency of the Isle of Man. It has 11 partners, 27 other lawyers, 17 fiduciary service providers and a total staff of 119.</p>
<p>Appleby, previously Appleby Spurling Hunter, is an offshore legal, fiduciary and administration service provider, created by the merger of Bermuda&#8217;s Appleby Spurling Kemp and the Cayman Islands&#8217; Hunter &amp; Hunter in 2004, and a subsequent merger with Jersey, UK&#8217;s Bailhache Labesse in 2006.</p>
<p>It has offices in the key offshore locations of Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Jersey and Mauritius, as well as London, Hong Kong and Zurich.  It plans to open an office in Dubai.</p>
