Politicians are relatively evenly divided on the global warming issue; scientists are overwhelmingly believers.

Never trust any one scientist. Usually trust a large majority of scientists who agree on a technical matter.

And, of course, the piece insults conservatives’ intelligence. I suspect that the researchers failed to control for many variables, such as education level. People with higher IQs tend to have more university education, with also correlates with more liberal politics. Immersion of young people at university tends to do that.

I think Mark may be right with a basaltic pipe. My first guess was a volcanic plug sheared off by glaciers during the last ice age. Volcanic plugs stick out because they’re slowly cooled solid lava, while the cones around them are a mix of lava and ash, which is softer. There could be several in the area. Someone should check to see if the cracks and bits that look like the arms of a crescent are aligned with glacial striations on bedrock on the nearest land masses.

Other passes using different imaging techniques would be a good idea and the fact that it hasn’t been done yet leads me to believe this is all a bit of advertising for the treasure hunting company.

What is wrong with reporters nowadays? On the Internet, it doesn’t cost anything extra to go ahead and publish the 2nd photo. WTF?

The wreck of the Tirpitz was broken up by a joint Norwegian and German salvage operation after the war from 1948 to 1957. Its gun turrets were relatively rectangular, so unless we are looking at them upside down, this explanation doesn’t yet fit well.

First it was Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons; if I were them I’d fear an invasion by the West lead by the USA so I’d want nuclear weapons to deter this.

Now however Iran is suddenly the axis of terrorism; could it be the argument to invade Iran based on them developing nuclear weapons isn’t working fast enough because it sounds like a desperate attempts to forward an agenda for “regime change” in Iran. Nothing to do with oil of course.

Narrowing the focus a bit, if Rutgers were to disavow the School of Law in Camden, it would be bad both for the law school and for Rutgers as a whole. And, importantly, it would also fail Rowan. The School of Law is able to recruit the terrific faculty and students it has because of the Rutgers name and affiliation — Rutgers has national and indeed global standing as a research university. Rowan does not and won’t for years and years, or possibly ever. What this means, essentially and crucially, is that Rowan would not be getting the high-quality law school that Rutgers would be losing. And this returns to the Rutgers Boards’s fiduciary responsibilities: between all the national and international fellowships the law faculty wins, the major books published, and the clinical and pro bono work it accomplishes, the School of Law in Camden adds value to Rutgers as a whole. Losing Camden law schooll would be a real blow to Rutgers University.
