Paul Hastings LLP announced that David Hernand, a prominent attorney for technology, media and entertainment companies, has left Cooley LLP to join the law firm’s Los Angeles office. He has joined the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions practice as a partner.
Speaking on Hernand joining Paul Hastings, the law firm’s chair of Corporate Practice, Elizabeth Noe, said, “David’s practice will be a great complement to our DC-based Telecommunications, Media and Technology transactional and regulatory practice.” She added, “Paul Hastings is committed to maintaining our strong presence across our West Coast footprint and David’s arrival advances our efforts to help clients in the high-tech media sector.”
Hernand advises companies, special committees, private equity funds, board of directors, investment banks and venture capital firms on public and private M&A deals. He also helps his clients in cross-border M&A transactions, public and private capital raising transactions, corporate control contests, general company representation matters, and strategic partnering arrangements.
Carl Sanchez, chair of the Global Mergers & Acquisitions practice in Paul Hastings, said, “David’s addition allows us to fill a demand in this burgeoning area where clients will increasingly need advisors who are well versed in both the innovative culture of the sector and sophisticated transactional work.”
Sanchez added, “Technological disruptions and regulatory pressures are driving significant change in the business models and financing structures of the media and entertainment industry.”
Hernand has a sterling portfolio and his clients have included organizations like Collective Digital Studios, Machinima, DIRECTV, Upfront Ventures, Saban Capital, DreamWorks Animation, March Capital, Nordstrom, Paradigm, Pritzker Group Venture Capital, Mattel, Relativity Media, SK Telecom, United Talent Agency and William Morris.
Speaking on his reasons to join Paul Hastings, Hernand said, “Paul Hastings is the perfect fit for my practice: a firm comprised of high-caliber lawyers working on clients’ most-important matters, with strong Los Angeles connectivity and international platform, and unmatched commitment to client service and innovation.”Media M&A Attorney David Hernand Leaves Cooley to Join Paul Hastings by Scott
