Nixon Peabody Hires Gerry Leone, DA of Middlesex County, MA

On Tuesday, Nixon Peabody announced that Gerry Leone, the District Attorney of Middlesex County, Massachusetts will be joining the law firm as a partner in the law firm’s Government Investigation & White Collar Defense practice in Boston from the end of April, 2013.

 

Currently, Gerry Leone oversees the prosecution and investigation of crimes in a county that includes 54 cities and towns and almost a quarter of the population of Massachusetts. Mr. Leone’s record of accomplishment ranges from the conviction of the first admitted al-Qaeda terrorist in U.S. to convicting members of the Massachusetts State Treasury. The state treasury case which involved the theft of $9.7 million in taxpayer monies is the largest public corruption case in the history of Massachusetts.

Before being elected as a district attorney in 2006, Gerry Leone worked as first assistant United States attorney in the District of Massachusetts, and conducted federal and international investigations into cases ranging from public corruption to health care fraud and cybercrime. He was also the first Anti-Terrorism Task Force coordinator in Massachusetts.

 

Prior to joining the office of the U.S. Attorney, Gerry Leone served as chief of the Criminal Bureau for the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. He began his career as a trial attorney in Boston in the office of the Suffolk County DA.

 

Speaking on the event of going into private practice, Mr. Leone said, “After dedicating myself to protecting and serving others and impacting lives in public service for the last twenty years, I’m excited about the opportunity to take on new challenges and provide service to others in a different capacity.”
