Todd Akin Skips Interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan View Count: 4
The bad week for Todd Akin continues to get worse. Akin, a GOP congressman from Missouri, is running for a U.S. Senate seat. Akin was scheduled to appear in an interview with Piers Morgan of CNN. The interview was to take place on Monday night but Akin skipped the interview, which caused Morgan to berate Akin and call him a ‘gutless little twerp.’
The bad week for Akin started on Sunday when he said during an interview on television that ‘legitimate rape’ victims biologically are unlikely to get pregnant. Akin is running against Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill. Multiple Republicans have asked that Akin remove himself from the race for the Senate seat.
Akin has issued an apology for his comments and has said that he will remain in the race for the Senate seat. Morgan, while on air, stared at the empty chair and said, “Congressman, you have an open invitation to join me in that chair whenever you feel up to it, because if you don’t keep your promise to be on the show, then you are what we would call in Britain a gutless little twerp.”
The following is an excerpt from Akin’s apology, which has aired on television as an advertisement:
“I don’t know that I’m the only person in public office who suffered from foot in mouth disease here,” he said. “This was a very, very serious error.”
“On the other hand, there are so many good people in Missouri who nominated me,” he added. “I feel just as strongly as ever that my background and ability will be a big asset in replacing [Sen.] Clare McCaskill and putting some sanity back in our government. I’m not a quitter, and my belief is we’re going to take this thing forward, and by the grace of God we’re going to win this race.”Todd Akin Skips Interview with CNN's Piers Morgan by Jim Vassallo
