Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise Reach Divorce Settlement

On Monday, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes reached a settlement in their divorce. Most around Hollywood believed that it would be a long and nasty separation between the two but that is no longer the case. Lawyers for both parties said that the couple settled the divorce, which was filed by Holmes less than two weeks ago.

“The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed,” Holmes attorney Jonathan Wolfe said in a statement. The attorney for Cruise, Bert Fields, confirmed the settlement. “Tom is really pleased we got there and so am I.” Wolfe also said that the terms of the settlement are confidential and will not be disclosed to the public.

“We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life,” Wolfe’s statement said. “We thank Tom’s counsel for their professionalism and diligence that helped bring about this speedy resolution.”

Cruise and Holmes asked for privacy for their family and daughter Suri in a joint statement.

“We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents.” The statement was prepared by Amanda Lundberg, the publicist for Cruise and Nanci Ryder, a representative for Holmes.
