Greenberg Traurig LLP has announced that it has added lawyers to its Israel Practice in the offices of Tel Aviv and New York. The Tel Aviv office will be home to Scott Mortman as a shareholder for the Corporate & Securities Practice. Mortman was a partner at Mayer, Brown LLP. The New York office will be home to Ephraim Schmeidler. He will work as counsel in the Corporate & Securities Practice. He previously worked as a lawyer with Blank Rome.
“Our plan to attract talented attorneys to serve Israel Practice clients from Tel Aviv, the U.S. and other locations has quickly become a reality,” Gary M. Epstein said. Epstein is the chair of the Global Corporate & Securities Practice for the firm. He is also the co-chair of the Israel Practice and the managing shareholder of the Tel Aviv office. “The top-tier attorneys who are joining our team have the cross-border experience that make them a good fit with our firm and is increasingly required by our global clients.”
The practice for Mortman is centered around energy, technology, the environment, governmental affairs, corporate law and litigation and international dispute resolution.
“With the opening of its Israel office, Greenberg Traurig has created a global platform to support Israeli companies seeking to grow their businesses abroad,” Mortman said. “I look forward to working with these companies in leveraging the firm’s international resources for their benefit.”
Schmeidler said, “I’m excited to be involved in growing Greenberg Traurig’s Israel Practice and particularly delighted to join my long-time colleague, David Gitlin, who recently joined the firm’s Philadelphia office. Together, we will afford our clients the firm’s unique multidisciplinary practices and global platform and provide them with a wide range of services.”

In other lateral news, the firm of Sidley Austin LLP 
announced that Alexander Moon has joined the firm’s global finance practice as a partner in the New York office. Moon’s practice focuses on secured and unsecured finances and the financing of commodities in domestic and cross-border areas.
“We are pleased to welcome Alex to the Firm,” Michael Schmidtberger said. Schmidtberger is the managing partner of the New York office and belongs to the Firm’s Management and Executive Committees. “His broad experience, including commodity financing, further adds to the significant strength of our global finance practice group.”
