Border Patrol Agents on Paid Leave after Oral Sex Incident at Cirque Du Soleil

Members of the audience at a Cirque Du Soleil performance in Del Mar, California saw a little bit more than they paid for on May 27. In the audience, as children watched on, a couple engaged in oral sex. One of the witnesses asked the couple to end their tryst, which they did at first. One of the witnesses, known only as ‘Jenny,’ voiced her displeasure with the couple the most. Jenny works as a military doctor and was confronted by the couple, who was waiting for her at the door after the show.

“Next thing I knew, she punches me on my left temple,” Jenny said. “I didn’t feel the other two hits. She hit me on the right side of my jaw and the left side of my jaw.”

It turns out that the two who assaulted Jenny and were engaged in oral sex are U.S. border patrol agents. They have been identified as Kallie Helwig and Gerald Torello Jr. The couple was arrested and Helwig was charged with a misdemeanor for battery. Torello was arrested for being drunk in public. The cases are being reviewed by the San Diego District Attorney’s office, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. The couple could be charged as requested or be returned to the Sheriff’s Department for additional investigation. The incident is also being investigated by the Border Patrol, which put the agents on paid leave.

The following statement was released by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency about the incident:

All Customs and Border Protection (CBP) employees are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner while on or off duty. CBP stresses honor and integrity in every aspect of our mission, and the overwhelming majority of CBP employees and officers perform their duties with honor and distinction, working tirelessly every day to keep our country safe. CBP takes every allegation of misconduct seriously and fully cooperates in the investigation of such allegations. Presently, the two employees in question have been assigned administrative duties.
