Alan Dershowitz, a legal commentator and attorney, has criticized State Attorney Angela Corey for how she had handled the prosecution of George Zimmerman, the man arrested for killing Trayvon Martin. Dershowitz is a professor at Harvard Law School and wrote on Newsmax that Corey called the school with a “a 40-minute rant, during which she threatened to sue Harvard Law School, to try to get me disciplined by the Bar Association and to file charges against me for libel and slander.”

The school responded to the rant from Corey by saying that Dershowitz has a right to express his opinions. Corey then “persisted in her nonstop whining,” Dershowitz wrote, “claiming that she is prohibited from responding to my attacks by the rules of professional responsibility.” Dershowitz has been criticizing Corey since the moment she charged Zimmerman with second-degree murder back in April. Dershowitz claims that the affidavit filed by Corey did not include key information and had ‘half truths’ in it. In his writing, Dershowitz said that in the affidavit, Corey ‘willfully omitted all information’ about any injuries suffered by Zimmerman.

“She should go back to law school, where she will learn that it is never appropriate to submit an affidavit that contains a half truth, because a half truth is regarded by the law as a lie, and anyone who submits an affidavit swears to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth,” Dershowitz wrote.

In a television interview, Dershowitz said that the affidavit “is not only thin, it’s irresponsible” and described the announcement of the murder charge by Corey as “a campaign speech for re-election” and also wrote that she is “anything but ethical, lawful and professional” her handling of the case.

During a recent appearance on Fox News, Dershowitz said that if Corey knew of the injuries to Zimmerman that “This affidavit submitted by the prosecutor in the Florida case is a crime… It’s a perjurious affidavit.”

Dershowitz went on to say that Corey went too far when she responded to his criticism of her.

“The idea that a prosecutor would threaten to sue someone who disagrees with her for libel and slander, to sue the university for which he works, and to try to get him disbarred, is the epitome of unprofessionalism,” Dershowitz said.

Martin was shot and killed by Zimmerman on February 26 in Sanford, Florida in what Zimmerman has called self-defense, claiming that the teenager attacked him.
