Kathie Lee Gifford Asks Martin Short about Deceased Wife

Martin Short was promoting his newest movie, Madagascar III, while appearing on the Today show Wednesday morning. Short answered questions about the movie and his family, including questions about his youngest son. Short’s son just graduated from school, which made the father very proud. Short also bragged about the careers of his older children as well. One question that no one really saw coming was that of Short being asked about his marriage to his deceased wife. That question was posed by co-host Kathie Lee Gifford. Even though the question was inappropriate and probably the biggest blunder in the history of television, Short handled the situation very well.

Short answered the question by saying that he was married to his wife for 36 years and then Gifford continued with “But you’re still, like, in love.” Short responded with “Madly in love. Madly.” Gifford kept prying and asked ‘Why?’ Short responded with a joke, “Cute. I’m cute.”

“And you make each other laugh…” Gifford said. Hoda Kotb, the co-host of the show, tried to change the subject by saying, “speaking of making each other laugh… you’ve got something in that bag.”

If anyone working on the show did research, quite quickly, they would have found that Short’s wife Nancy Dolman died on August 21, 2010. You can watch the video of the ill-fated interview in our post.
