Hakeem Nicks Reels in Hail Mary to Help Giants Upset Packers

On Sunday, the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers hosted the New York Giants in the divisional round of the playoffs. As the first half clocked ticked down to less than 20 seconds left, the Giants were trying to get into field goal range. New York quarterback Eli Manning handed the ball to running back Ahmad Bradshaw, who found open space to the Packers’ 37-yard line. Even though Bradshaw picked up a huge chunk of yards on the play, New York head coach Tom Coughlin thought his team was still not in field goal range.

As the clock ticked down to six seconds remaining in the half and no timeouts remaining for the Giants, Manning lined up in the shotgun. He took the snap and fired a bomb to the end zone, where Giants receivers and Packers defenders converged on the spot where the ball was headed. Hakeem Nicks, a Giants wide receiver, put himself in perfect position to make a catch. Nicks extended his arms mid-jump and pulled in the football as he fell on top of two Packer defenders. It was the second touchdown of the game for Nicks, giving the Giants a 20-10 lead heading into the break. The Giants eventually defeated the Packers 37-20.
