The Kentucky Bar Association recommended disbarment–effectively killing a lawyer’s career– for famous tort Lawyer Stan Chesley. Chelsey charged his clients $20 million out of a $200 million dollar fen-phen drug case when in fact contracts showed he was entitled to about $13 million. In the recommendation for disbarment, the reviewing officers required Chesley to return 7.5 million. Two other lawyers in the case were convicted and given prison time for overcharging plaintiffs $94 million.
