According to the Obama Administration, Recent Ban on Funding for Abortion Services Goes Against Federal Law

The Obama administration reacted to an Indiana law that bans abortion providers from receiving Medicaid funds for non-abortion related healthcare. The administration informed Indiana that the new law does not adhere to a federal law that prohibits Medicaid patients from receiving treatment from a provider based on anything other than their qualification to provide the specific services in question. According to the Obama administration, banning providers who perform abortions as qualified providers for services other than abortions does not adhere to section 1902 (a) of the Social Security Act.
