Former Texas solicitor general Gregory Coleman died in a plane crash on Tuesday. Coleman was piloting the plane himself over Destin, Florida when foggy conditions were encountered.

Coleman was a partner for  Yetter Coleman and is widely recognized for the arguments he gave in two significant court cases in 2009: Northwest Austin Municipal Utility District No. 1 v. Holder, serving as a litmus test for the Voting Rights Act, and Connecticut affirmative action case, Ricci v. DeStefano. More recently, the soft-spoken 47-year old represented the prosecution in a case involving a death row inmate and DNA testing, Skinner v. Switzer.
